During sleep a whole host of things are happening with our body and mind. Our body repairs and heals, our minds consolidate new information and remove un-needed information. Sleep is vitally important for our health and well-being.

A lot of people have a hard time ‘switching off’ because you are worried about something and this can affect the amount of good quality sleep we get.

Not getting enough ‘quality’ sleep has been linked with depression, poor memory recollection, anxiety, impaired immune systems, high blood pressure, increased risk of chronic disease, fatigue and weight gain. All of which can contribute to a lower quality of life.

In short, without good quality sleep, we can get ill!

The thing is, in my personal experience, if you go to see a doctor because you are feeling down, it maybe rare the they ask you about your sleep routine. A lot of the time they’ll diagnose you with depression and prescribe anti-depressants which can have insomnia as a side-effect!
